Karava FB Post - The family of Don Davit de Silva (circa 1850-1915) of Gintota. ගිංතොට දොන් දාවිත් ද සිල්වා (1850-1915 පමණ) මැතිතුමාගේ පරපුර A W P (Abeydeera Wijewickrema Punchihewage) Don Davit de Silva was originally from Tangalle. His Father and Grandfather had been merchants there. Don Davit had set up business in Galle, prospered, expanded to Colombo and India and had become one of the wealthiest Businessmen of the country. ඒ ඩබ්ලිව් පී (අබේදීර විජේවික්‍රම පුංචිහේවගේ) දොන් ඩේවිඩ් ද සිල්වා ගේ ගම තංගල්ල ය. ඔහුගේ පියා සහ සීයා එහි වෙළඳ ව්‍යාපාරිකයන් ය. දොන් ඩේවිට් ගාල්ලේ ව්‍යාපාරයක් ආරම්භ කර, එය ඉක්මනින් දියුණු වී, කොළඹ සහ ඉන්දියාව දක්වා ව්‍යාප්ත වී, එතුමා රටේ ධනවත්ම ව්‍යාපාරිකයෙකු බවට පත්විය. Don Davit lived in the palatial "Siri Nivasa" in Gintota. It had been between the Galle Road and the Railway station. The strategic location of his residence would have helped him to commute easily to Colombo and Galle by train, before motorcars came to Sri Lanka. He had always travelled in the first class carriage disregarding the disapproval of British Officers and Planters who thought it was their preserve . දොන් ඩේවිඩ් ජීවත් වූයේ ගිංතොට "සිරි නිවස" නම් නිවසේ ය. එය ගාලු පාර සහ ගිංතොට දුම්රිය ස්ථානය අතර පිහිටා තිබී ඇත. මෝටර් රථ ලංකාවට පැමිණීමට පෙර ඒ යුගයේ, ඔහුගේ නිවසෙහි පිහිටීම කොළඹට සහ ගාල්ලට පහසුවෙන් දුම්රියෙන් යෑමට ඔහුට උපකාරී වන්නට ඇත. දුම්රියේ පළමු පන්තිය ඔවුන්ගේ යැයි සිතූ බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය නිලධාරීන්ගේ සහ වැවිලිකරුවන්ගේ අප්‍රසාදය නොතකා, දොන් ඩේවිඩ් සෑම විටම ගොස් ඇත්තේ දුම්රියේ පළමු පන්තියේම ය.

Don Davit had also owned a fine pair of horses and a elegant carriage produced by Phoeton and when motor cars came in, he had been one of the first to own one. දොන් ඩේවිඩ් සතුව කදිම අශ්වයන් යුගලක් සහ ෆෝටන් සමාගම විසින් නිපදවන ලද නවීන අස් රියක් ද තිබූ අතර, මෙරටට මෝටර් රථ පැමිණි විට ඔහු ඒවා යේ මුල් අයිති කරුවන්ගෙන් කෙනෙක් විය. His first wife had been K C Juanis' sister and they had four children by that marriage: * Grace who married Theodore Gunaratne of Weligama. * Charles * Baron * Simon who lived in Mt. Lavinia

His second wife was from the Ranaweera family of Wakwella, Galle and they had six children: * Henry Abeydeera Don David who married Norah Peiris from Panadura * Porolis Abeydeera * Louisa who married M W Martin de Silva of Galle * Maggie (d. 1945) who married Kalupahanage Paanis de Silva, Landed Proprietor, Dodanduwa * Muriel who married Merennage Simon Salgado of Panadura * Alfred Abeydeera who married Alice Clark Among his other benevolences he had patronized the Thuparama, the family's neighbourhood temple, renovated and also equipped the Ahangama Maha Vihara and the Gintota school, which is now the Gintota Maha Vidyalaya.

ඔහුගේ අනෙකුත් දානපතිත්වයන් ට අමතරව පවුලේ අසල්වැසි ථූපාරාමයටද අනුග්‍රහය දැක්වීය. අහංගම මහා විහාරය සහ දැන් ගිංතොට මහා විද්‍යාලය වන ගිංතොට පාසලද ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කර ඇත.
